Biography
Born in Damascus in 1982, Diaa Homsy is a Syrian-Spanish choreographer, movement director and flamenco artist based in Seville.His artistic journey began with training in classical ballet, contemporary dance, modern dance and Arabic folklore. He later performed internationally with Enana Dance Theatre and Caracalla Dance Theatre, touring across the Arab world, Europe, Asia and the United States.After moving to Spain in 2010, he devoted himself to flamenco, studying in Madrid and Seville and graduating with honours from the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. His work gradually developed into a personal language connecting flamenco, contemporary movement and the cultural memory of the Arab world.His choreographic projects include Wardrobe, Geophobia and Lubricante Social. In 2018, he reached the semifinals of Arabs Got Talent, presenting flamenco to an international Arab audience through his own artistic perspective.Alongside his work as a performer and choreographer, Diaa has taught and led workshops in several European countries. He is the founder of A Compás Flamenco School in Seville, where he has developed his work as a teacher and artistic director.Today, his practice focuses on choreography, movement direction and the creation of new encounters between flamenco technique, contemporary dance and Arabic folk traditions.
